Business Development – Associate Director / Director - Singapore

The Singapore office covers both institutional and private banks/ high net worth clients in the APAC region – including Japan and Australia. The individual is expected to help build/maintain the firm’s assets under management through direct sales efforts, with a focus first on private banks/ high net worth clients. The individual will also cover client servicing including reporting, ad hoc requests, questionnaires, and quarterly reviews of portfolios.

Description

The Singapore office covers both institutional and private banks/ high net worth clients in the APAC region – including Japan and Australia. The individual is expected to help build/maintain the firm’s assets under management through direct sales efforts, with a focus first on private banks/ high net worth clients. The individual will also cover client servicing including reporting, ad hoc requests, questionnaires, and quarterly reviews of portfolios.

Depending on experience and interest, the individual can assist with the institutional sales efforts in APAC where and when it makes sense from a workflow perspective. The individual will be responsible for preparing an annual strategic plan to identify, target and access key prospects in their assigned channel and territories. The individual will be working alongside the current Singapore team and will report to the CEO of Brandes Asia. 

Responsibilities

Cover all the private bank/ high net worth relationships in a methodical fashion, with a view to deepening existing relationships and broadening across new prospects where it makes sense. For global businesses, coordinates with our colleagues across Europe and United States to ensure consistent coverage and coordinate efforts and know-how. Appropriate use of portfolio manager assets/ organize webinars/ share thought pieces to provide value add to relationships.

Develops and documents a clear understanding of the needs of prospects such as their asset allocation, investment guidelines and goals. Uses this information to deliver excellent advice about the relevance of the firm’s products and investment capabilities.

Document all interactions in the company’s client relationship management system in a timely fashion.

Assist the Singapore team and Portfolio Management Group in client servicing and retention efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with CFA or other post-graduate degree beneficial.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required; fluency and/or conversational knowledge of other languages beneficial, including Japanese and Mandarin.
  • Passionate about the sales process.
  • Openness to working in a small office/entrepreneurial environment sometimes requiring support with administrative tasks.
  • Experience in sales roles within an asset manager and familiarity with Asian markets and constituents (asset allocators including institutions, government/ quasi- government organizations, sovereign wealth funds, private banks as well as consultants) preferred.
